The Challenge: Making Complex Health Information Accessible

The My Health Records experience needed to bring a wide range of personal health information together in one place without overwhelming members. A key requirement was to include a preview of every category on the overview, while providing deeper detail within each dedicated section. This created a challenge around balancing information density, readability, and navigation.

The existing design system also lacked the components needed to visualize lab results effectively. Addressing this meant not only designing clear, intuitive data visualizations for members, but also creating new graph components for the design library—extending the system to support the experience while establishing reusable patterns for presenting health data. These components went on to support other designers and use cases beyond the original project.
