Who is Leslie McFarland?
Long story short, I love to make things.
As a kid, I always knew I would be an artist (or a "drawer" as I called it). And I did a lot of drawing throughout my youth. Upon graduating high school, I enrolled at Herron School of Art & Design in Indianapolis. The curriculum includes a foundation year, where students get a taste of all sorts of different media. I happened to have a typography class and it was love at first sight. Something about letterforms just speaks to me.
So I declared myself a Visual Communication major and got to work. I got my BFA and landed a job in a small advertising agency. A few jobs later, I find myself working at a major national corporation doing magazine layout. I enjoy it, but the "drawer" in me had started itching to come out and play.
I took an online class on hand-lettering and fell in love (again). I'm constantly finding reasons to practice this skill. I also draw a lot in my free time and I love learning new illustration techniques. I opened a shop at Etsy.com where I sell some of my illustration work.
When I'm not designing or drawing something, I can be found snuggling with my dogs, hanging out with my husband / partner in crime, geeking out over music and books, or watching Harry Potter.
